A Broadcast Live from the Coke Lot, Race Day Eve 2008

Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio told Rolling Stone on 5/21, “When Phish broke up, [and] I made some comment about how I’m not gonna go around playing ‘You Enjoy Myself’ for the rest of my life … [it was] symbolic of how much I lost my mind or how much I lost my bearings or something. Because at this point in time I would give my left nut to play that song five times in a row every day until I die. I certainly thought about that while I was in jail.”

Summer Tours Recapped (again)...

May 17th - Blind Melon - Piere’s, Fort Wayne, IN

I missed this show had to get some stuff done for my internship…already saw em once this year so oh well…

May 23rd - Stone Temple Pilots - Carbday Indianpolis Motor Speedway, IN

I made this one, we were almost rained out but Budweiser got us through the weather…and into a beautiful race weekend…

May 24th - X103’s MayDay Concert - Deer Creek, Noblesville, IN

Didn’t make this one because I was at the track livin’ the life, my girlfriend said it was awesome so let’s trust her word…

May 30th - Eric Clapton w/ Robert Randolph & the Family Band - Deer Creek, IN

Although I had FREE tickets I couldn’t go because a friend of mine got married…It stormed like hell that night and from what I hear it was a decent show…

June 4th - CAKE - Caesars Indiana Outdoor Venue, Elizabeth, IN

You bet your ass I made it to see CAKE…Again it stormed like hell before the show and left about 6 inches of water in my backyard before we left but we made it south in time…The show was rockin’ but they only played for about an hour and a half and then I drove 2+ hours home by myself to make it to Indy in time for work…How do you afford your Rock ‘N Roll Lifestyle?

June 13th -Medeski, Scofield, Martin, & Wood - Indy Jazzfest, Indianapolis, IN

Unfortunately it rained (again) during the day and I figured the show would be cancelled…wrong it turned out to be a marvellous evening and I missed a kick ass show…damn

June 28th - Steve Miller Band w/ Joe Cocker - Deer Creek, Noblesville, IN

Well it rained like hell the night before and morning of the show (again).  I’m beginning to see a theme here which involves rain at every show I go to, but thankfully the rain held off until we got into our car-Hooray.  Pretty good show considering I was starving and bad drunk (where you sit on the ground and wish you never drank the eight or nine 16oz. Budweisers and a ton of Franzia Boxed White Zinfandel in the parking lot before the show)…Not a good idea.  Then I got separated from everyone when I went to go get some Nachos and it was just a mess.  Overall I recovered from this horrible drunkiness and was able to enjoy Steve Miller Band…. Although I have no recollection of Joe Cocker’s Set…

June 28th - The Wailers - Blue Bird, Bloomington, IN

Wish I could have jammed at this show, but Joe Cocker & Steve Miller Band won the bid.  A buddy of mine went and said that Ziggy Marley came on stage for the second set and jammed out like crazy.  All I know is these guys rock, I was lucky enough to see them at Bonnaroo a couple of years back and they really impressed me.  I really impressed myself with the size of the cone we had as well..:)

July 3rd - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Deer Creek, Noblesville, IN

Rained all day before the show (again) but thankfully dried up enough to not be too wet and nasty.  This was a pretty sweet show…People as far as the eye could see, everyone was singin’ and dancin’ like crazy and it was a beautiful sight.  I also managed to avoid disaster when a little punk security guard caught me off guard in the pavilion…Those dudes are little snakes man they will bust your ass in a minute if your not keeping a super low profile…So, I bailed and headed to the lawn in which I had no idea where my buddies were…Nonetheless, the show went off without a hitch and my dudes Ross & Sauter waved the American Flag (for Independence Day) the whole show….Go America…Made for a great holiday weekend.

July 13th - Steely Dan - National City Pavilion, Cincinnati, OH

We got to Cincy on Saturday (the show was on Sunday) and decided to check into the hotel, get food, get beers, and party in the room until we decided to go out to the bars to check out the Cincy night life.  Unfortunately MORE RAIN!  It poured like Bloody Hell so we just sat in our nice Hyatt room and drank numerous Budweiser’s…By the way it IS ILLEGAL to bring beer and or alcohol into a hotel in Cincinnati!  We didn’t know this little fact until we walked back to the hotel with the beer and saw the sign, so we Bootlegged in the beer and had to destroy the evidence the next morning.  Ironically we were lucky enough to pick a hotel directly between a NAACP convention and a Cincinnati Police Conference…You get the picture…

When Sunday rolled around the weather was back to sunny and warm and so we sat out on the Great Tour De Cincinnati in search of a Skyline Chili (we were actually looking for a Gold Star Chili- former official chili of the Cincinnati Reds, but thats a story for another time),  And decided to drop across the river and head into Covington, Ohio to check it out.  The only way I can describe this little town is like a German Broad Ripple, the architecture, restaurants, and little shops all screamed “GERMANY!”- I had a great time hopping from bar to bar with two of my best friends and my girlfriend.

Show Time!  Show time rolls around so we decide to get some beers on our way out so we can tailgate…Sounds logical right?  Psh…RiverBend Amphitheater DOESN’T allow you to drink or tailgate in the parking lot, so we had to sneak em around and be shady…we managed to smash em though…In doing so, we met a couple of older guys- Mike and Steve from Dayton, had a couple of beers with them and decided to head in.  The show itself was awesome, the only shady part was the we were the only group of people under 35 years of age and therefor the only group of people who had energy and wanted to dance late into the evening…our neighbors, not so much…we got yelled at from all directions at one point!  Oh well I was in such a good mood you couldn’t dare stop me.  Man I wish I had more money to go to the Chicago show!!!!!!

July 15th - Steely Dan - Chicago Theater, Chicago, IL

I almost donated plasma and sold a kidney to go to this show because I had so much fun at the Cincy Show….”Is There Gas In The Car?  Yes There’s Gas In The Caaaaar!”
